Borneo
Outdoor education, jungle wildlife, environmentalism, cultural immersion
From soaring cloud-tipped mountains to lush equatorial rainforests,
a school trip to Borneo means learning in an ecological adventure playground.

Along the way, there’ll be life-changing challenges. You’ll summon the self-confidence to climb Mount Kinabalu, Asia’s highest peak. You’ll call on courage as you come face-to-face with wild animals in Borneo’s remote jungles and meet new people who don’t speak your language. And you’ll impart empathy while walking along World War II’s notorious ‘death march’ trail.
Borneo, in Malaysia’s east, is the perfect place to engage maturing young minds in today’s most important environmental and cultural issues. Start your tour in Malaysia’s mainland capital, Kuala Lumpur, with an Amazing Race-style dash around the city. As you navigate, you’ll solve a quiz about Malaysia’s history and multicultural make-up – excellent background for your onward travels through Borneo.
We’ve travelled to Borneo with Student Educational Experiences on three occasions. Their organisation is of the highest standard and their programs are flexible. I can’t speak highly enough of the tour guides. They’ve solved local problems and interacted with the students and staff so much that we see them as friends. We’ve successfully built houses in Borneo and our students return with a feeling of accomplishment, as well as feeling they’ve made a difference to families, and with a better understanding of the culture of Sabah and Sarawak.

DESIGN YOUR OWN UNIQUE CURRICULUM
Every trip we run is customised to your school’s curriculum, budget, student needs and educational goals. Here are just some of the exciting ways your students can learn in Borneo:
Ignite your inner environmentalist in Borneo's fragile rainforests
Visit a palm oil plantation to learn how the industry is destroying Borneo’s carbon-rich forests. Ponder the plight of native orang-utans at Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre. Awake to the calls of hornbills and macaques, cruise past crocodiles and – if you’re lucky – spot a rare Sumatran rhino.

AMPLIFY STUDENT-LED LEARNING
By letting your students co-design their Borneo tour, you’ll give them ownership over their activities and agenda. You’ll also make sure your school trip meets their specific strengths, interests and knowledge gaps.
